Having played guitar himself for a long time, Aldo Maillot has always created and then maintained his own and his friends' guitars.
Through the years, Aldo's passion for lutherie has grown stronger as he's tackled and mastered the different steps of guitar making.
M.A.D. Guitars was thus born!
M.A.D. Guitars makes quality electric guitars and basses, offering a unique, as well as, original design. Handcrafting allows the maker to wisely choose between a wide range of exquisite woods in order to deliver a full and accurate sound.

M.A.D. Guitars' bolt on necks are concieved to obtain the same ergonomy as the dovetail or neckthrough. They are of course tightened in order to obtain the closest possible result.

One of the most major aspects of the sound of an electric instrument, after the hands that will play it and the woods it is made of, is the choice of pickups. It is imperative to find the right set of pickups that will drive the sound the way we expect.
Guitar pickups work like every other microphone: it captures the sound within its spectrum and will give it its texture according to its equalisation shape.
There are two types of pickups: Single coil and humbucker.
Single coils have more opened, clear and dynamic sound. The pick's transcient on each string will be more obvious to the ear. Their output level is lower than humbuckers although more nuanced. The dynamic difference is more obvious. Their overall sound is rich in mediums and lighter than humbuckers.
Humbuckers are a lot richer in the lower ends with less treble than single coils. They offer a higher output level but less dynamics, rendering in a more powerful and compact kind of sound. The transcient is less obvious on each string.
What does a good pickup do? Its role is to emphasize the build as well as the woods to enhance all the frequency spectrum the instrument gives naturally. A good pickup will allow a better distinction between each single note of each string, even while streaming chords. It allows a clear distinction of the note of any chord played whereas a bad pickup will change the chord sound not unlike a melted marshmallow fluff.
Electric guitars, just like the accoustics, have a tonal footprintlinked to the natural resonance of the wood they are made of, although they are different in the way their sound is produced.
The body of a guitar vibrates alnog the string, reflecting and emphasizing it to create a unique sound pertaining to this very guitar. All the accoustic properties of a wood will have a major influence on the final sound of an instrument.
Then, the combination of the strings and pickups play a major role in the final sound bringing modularity to the player by making possible the use of different types of effects and amp settings with altering the basic sound way beyond the wood combination possibilities.
Each wood is therefore unique: its physical properties allow conduction or absorption of the frequencies in order to create a unique and specific sound signature.
